About Us
If you need a real life testimony on why it’s so vital to have a defibrillator on hand in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest, and to know how to perform CPR, then look no further than this amazing story.
Defibs WA was founded by the husband and wife team of Con and Judy Paioff after their own life changing experience and from the realisation that the majority of people in our community don’t know how to perform life- saving CPR and that there is a severe lack of defibrillators in workplaces, homes and within the general community in WA.
On the 11th May 2020, Con and his family faced an experience that they thought would never happen to them.
While at home in his study, and without any symptoms or prior warning, Con suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Con was medically dead on the floor of his study for 16 minutes before the St John Ambulance could get to his home.
During those terrifying 16 minutes, Con’s life was saved by the heroic actions of his two children, who each performed CPR on their father for this whole time before the St John Ambulance arrived, and then by the amazing work by the paramedics from St John Ambulance who used a defibrillator to shock his heart back into rhythm and to bring him back to life.
Our Vision And Purpose
Defibs WA has a vision and a purpose to dramatically improve the sudden cardiac arrest survival rate by:
Encouraging as many individuals, business owners and organisations as possible to invest in defibrillators at their homes, workplaces and within the broader community, and
Educating and raising awareness about the vital importance of CPR and empowering people to learn how to perform this life saving skill
St John Giving Program
Defibs WA have undertaken to donate the part proceeds from the sale of each defibrillator to the St John Giving Program, which supports their not-for-profit services that they provide to the WA community. For example, these donations will go towards training more than 50,616 school students in first aid, free of charge.
